Nursery and Pre-K

The Nursery and Pre-K programs are intended to stimulate your child’s learning in all developmental areas: physical, language, social, emotional, and cognitive. Young children are tireless experimenters and investigators. At Saint Michael School, they will be encouraged to think creatively, be stimulated, guided, and encouraged in carefully planned activities that allow them to develop at their own optimum rate. Our teachers respond to individual differences in ability, interests, development, and learning styles. They provide the motivation and direction for success with appropriate learning activities in a safe, secure, and no-pressure environment.

The teachers recognize three very important tenets of early childhood education:

  • Children grow and develop at unique individual rates that are often unrelated to chronological age.
  • Children learn best through doing, through direct, immediate involvement with the environment, and through the sensory input of observation, manipulation, and experimentation.
  • Three and four-year-old children are experiencing rapid and important growth in many developmental areas, including the cognitive/intellectual, psychosocial, and physical-motor domains.

Kindergarten

Recognizing that children develop at their own pace, with varying strengths, needs and interest, implementation of the curriculum is flexible to support various types of learning and individual needs. Focus is on building crucial foundations in many areas such as language and communication, reading, math, science, social studies, social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills in a faith based, loving environment.

Kindergarten is an exciting entry into a child’s formal education and it is our mission to make it a positive beginning. The Kindergarten program is designed to enhance your child’s development in a challenging, secure and nurturing environment. We believe that young children learn through active, purposeful interactions with a wide variety of learning materials and activities which enhance the growth of the whole child.

Extended Day Care Program

We offer a drop-in Extended Day program that runs daily before school from 7:00 to 9:00am and after school from 3:15 to 5:30pm.

The Extended Day program offers your child a comfortable, safe environment that extends outside of your child’s standard school hours. This program is designed with flexibility and safety in mind. The Extended Day Program helps parents bridge the gap when home care is not available. We offer a wide range of activities including arts & crafts, outdoor play, library time, games, and dramatic arts that will enhance his/her social and emotional growth. Children will also be given the opportunity to finish homework, enjoy a book, or just take advantage of some quiet time under the supervision of our qualified staff.

Making Your Child's First School Experience A Positive One

The Nursery, Pre-K and Kindergarten experience for your child at Saint Michael School will be a rewarding venture. Saint Michael School will provide your child with a solid base essential for later learning, a strong sense of self-esteem, an excitement and curiosity about learning, and an enthusiasm for school. To guarantee your child’s success, we feel parental involvement is important.

To guarantee your child’s success, we feel parental involvement is important.

  • Open communication between home and school is essential. We encourage you to contact your child’s teacher at any time. If you are comfortable with your child’s learning situation, s/he will be also.
  • Share your child’s interest in and enthusiasm for new experiences. Learning is truly a life-long experience. Share the joy!
  • You will be provided with a written evaluation of your child’s progress twice each year. A formal conference will be set up once a year with your child’s teacher.
  • Help build sound habits and reinforce seriousness of purpose with regular attendance. The Nursery and Pre-K Programs become the foundation for later grades. The curriculum progressively supports and builds on learning and development throughout the elementary years. The teachers at Saint Michael School design curriculums across grades to ensure the integration of subject matter and learning.
