The Trumpet

School Notes ¯

This is the last Trumpet for the school year. School ends on June 17th with 10:30a.m. mass and dismissal immediately following!

Hot, Hot, Hot!- The temperature for tomorrow, June 10, is forecast to be hot, hot, hot. We encourage all students to wear their uniform shorts, polo shirts and sneakers. If your child does not own the uniform shorts, he/she may wear their gym shorts. This is not a Dress Down Day so please be sure to follow this guideline. Also, while we appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness, we’d prefer that you NOT bring in popsicles and cold treats for the children. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have a spare stand-up fan that you could donate to the classrooms for the next two days, we’d appreciate your help. Please just put your name on it and drop it off with your child tomorrow.

2008-09 Class Lists- Over the summer, we work tirelessly to design class lists that are well balanced. We look at each child individually and try to match him/her to the correct teacher while also balancing boy/girl ratios, friendship issues, learning abilities and levels, etc. Sometimes parents put a particular request in writing to the office to ask for a particular teaching style or to inform us of a social issue that their child experienced. While we appreciate your input, we cannot guarantee anything to parents who put request in writing to us. In addition, if you are making a request, it cannot be for a specific teacher with a list of friends to place your child with. Our teachers are the best judges for where the children should be placed. If you have an extenuating circumstance that requires a request, please put that request in writing to the office by June 11th. Requests received after that time will not be considered. If you mentioned your request to a teacher already, you must still put that in writing to the office. Again, we do not guarantee that we will meet your request.

Thank You- This is our last Trumpet for the year. We wish to thank Theresa Peterson for doing such a great job preparing the Trumpet each week.

Uniform Exchange- The last Uniform Exchange will be held on June 16th from 10a.m.-3p.m. Need a uniform, want to swap? Have a graduating 8th grader and want to donate your uniforms to the school? We would appreciate clean, slightly worn uniforms that can get use for another year. Drop off your donations in the lobby at any time.

Last Day of School- Our last day for grades 1-7 is June 17th. Students should arrive at school at 9a.m. in informal uniforms (uniform shorts/pants, polo tops, sneakers will be acceptable). We’ll attend Mass at 10:30a.m. (the church bulletin was incorrect this past weekend). Dismissal will be immediately following mass (approximately 11:30a.m. No bus home and No Extended Day Care).

N/PK/K End of Year- The last day of school for Nursery, Pre-k and Kindergarten students will be Thursday, June 12th. Kindergarten Graduation will be held that evening. The teachers will make themselves available to meet with any parents who wish to conference on June 13th and June 16th. Please watch your child’s backpack for details.

Kindergarten Graduation- Kindergarten students will graduate on Thursday night at 6p.m. Students should arrive in their classrooms at 5:30p.m. Parents should report to the gym to watch a slide show presentation beginning at 5:30p.m. Light refreshments will be served following the graduation ceremony.

Field Trips- Grade 5 is going to the USS Salem today. Grades 1-4 will attend Cedarland today and grades 5-7 will go on Wednesday. Grade 1 is going to the Merrimack College Observatory on Tuesday and grade 2 is heading to the Lawrence Fire Station on Friday. All field trips require an official SMS permission slip.

Step Up Day & Ice Cream Party- Students will be stepping up to the next grade on June 16th. They’ll receive their summer packets, reading assignments, etc. In the afternoon, the Student Council will sponsor an ice cream social. The ice cream is coming from Treadwell’s (located at Smolak Farm). They guarantee all ice cream (vanilla) is peanut free. In addition, all packages are unopened to avoid cross contamination. We offer chocolate sauce or strawberry topping and whip cream (no other toppings are offered). We have a limited amount of items for students with allergies (including lactose-free ice cream and popsicles). Please send a note into the school office if your child will be choosing an alternative due to allergy concerns. Students may dress out of uniform on this day (handbook regulations apply).

Thank you - The Class of 2008 would like to thank the Class of 2009 for helping with the graduation reception. Jen Andrewchuck & Kayla, Lisa & Emily Boehm, Marilyn & Caitlin Favreau, Brenda & David Savory, Donna & Colleen Sullivan, Nadia & Amelia Trant, Jean Gof, Travis Goodrum, Meaghan Flanagan, Eric Friedrich and especially Carla Friedrich for overseeing everything.

Parish Notes ¯

Vacation Bible School is back again for another exciting summer! If you are looking for a wonderful experience for your children this summer, please consider enrolling them in VBS "Vacation Bible School" the week of July 28th to August 1st  from 9 to noon each day. This year’s theme is "Son World: The Adventure Park VBS" where the children will join us for a thrilling ride learning more about Jesus. VBS is offered to all the surrounding churches and will be held at the Free Christian Church in Andover. Last year we had a group of children and adults participate in VBS and everyone LOVED IT! The theme of an adventure park will appeal to all children. The emphasis is on fun, games, music, snacks while growing their faith in a very powerful way. The cost is only $35.00 per week. For information and registration, please go to www.andovervbs.com. Questions? Contact Bonnie Spurr at 978-682-9484 or email her at bonniespurr@verizon.net. We are looking for lots of children to join Bonnie as well as adults and teen volunteers.
