Mrs. Meredith - Librarian

Welcome to St. Michael School. In 1997, with a master’s degree in library and information science and when my youngest of three children was beginning 5th grade, I joined this vibrant school community. I had worked in a few different libraries when I applied to work at St. Michael School, but this was a new and exciting challenge; the PTO had raised funds for a brand new library. I was hired to select, purchase, catalog and shelve a completely new collection. After studying the curriculum and surveying the teachers for their needs and wishes, I compiled a list of core collection titles, placed an order and we were on our way. In addition, we decided that we needed to purchase software for an automated catalog/circulation system. With the help and technical support of our wonderful Mrs. Rogge, the library catalog was made accessible throughout the school and later, online. In November, 1998, once we had everything in place, it was time to move the library collection into our new school building. It was a lot of work, but I loved it. I took delight in working with all of the wonderful people who pull together as a team to make St. Michael School the special place that it is.

Who else can say that they work in a castle and have a dragon over their head? I love sharing stories and helping students find books to match their interests. It’s always challenging, but it is also very rewarding. The students keep me on my toes every day and I hope I am able to share some of my love of books with them.

The library has changed over the years and will continue to change to meet the needs of the students and the teachers. In the modern world of technology, it is important to teach how to find reliable information, use it effectively and ethically and at the same time guide the students to discover adventures and wonderful worlds through the magical pages of books. Every time a student says that they enjoyed a book just reminds me why I love this job and this library. How blessed I am to be a part of such a fun and caring school family.
