Dear Grade 3-8 Parents:
We are excited to be unveiling a new online grading program to you. We have been working diligently to get the program up and running and are excited to launch it tomorrow, September 14th. In this email are specific step-by-step directions for you to go to www.teacherease.com to log in. Please note that you will receive a welcome email from teacherease tomorrow, September 14th, with your user name and password. We encourage you to change your password once you log on.
This new online grading program is a great tool for teacher, parents and students. As parents, you’ll be able to gain access to your child’s grades on tests, quizzes, projects and more and you will be able to log on to view your child’s homework assignments. As we know with anything new, there will be kinks in the system while we work things out. We will do our best to work out the kinks quickly.
As we know, the life of a teacher is not easy. Many hours of work occur far after 3:15p.m. each day. Our school policy has always been that we expect teachers to return papers, quizzes, tests, etc. within one week of them being taken or passed in. There are always exceptions to that, especially when 150 middle school reports are handed into one teacher on the same day. With that said, we hope all teachers will be able to post grades within one week of a test being given. This new online grading program will help the teachers because they will no longer need to complete mid-term progress reports (usually done in grades 6-8). Additionally, they won’t need to collect tests/quizzes below 70% signed by parents. We even plan on posting warnings for behaviors, etc. online rather than use our warning notices (grades 6-8) from past years.
This new online grading program is putting parents and students in the driver’s seat. It will allow you to always have a good sense of your child’s progress from day to day. We are asking parents and students to take on more responsibility by keeping track of a student’s progress throughout the year. However, we feel that by allowing you to have this view of our grade books, we are giving you and your child the best information we have on a daily basis and an opportunity to make improvements before a term ends.
We would like every grade 4-8 parent to log on to www.teacherease.com tomorrow after you receive the welcome letter from them with your user name and password. We strongly encourage parents to log on weekly to access your child’s grades. We also encourage you to share this information with your child so he/she will also know how he/she is doing in each term. You will also be able to log on from our website www.saintmichael.com. Once at our homepage you can select Student Life and Choose Homework Central – Middle School. Then you can select teacherease.
The teachers thank you for your support and cooperation as we enter this new step in technology. Don’t forget that communication between parents and teachers is vital to a student’s success. We will have formal conferences in October and we’ve added 3 informal conference days for December, March and May. Don’t feel that you have to wait for a conference to meet with or speak to a teacher. Feel free to drop off a note, make a call or email and teachers will get back to you within 24 hours.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gosselin
