The K-4 Basketball is a noncompetitive weekly skills program held on Saturdays. The program is intended to teach children the fundamental skills of basketball, which they will need to continue on to the competitive Grade 5-8 program. Grades 5-8
Description

The grade 5-8 basketball program is competitive as you will compete with other local Catholic and non-Catholic schools. However, our main goal is for the players to have fun, learn good sportsmanship and comprehend the importance of team work.

As a player, I understand the following rules & regulations and will abide by them or forfeit my privilege to play for St. Michael School:

  • Players represent St. Michael School and Parish at all games and practices. They are therefore expected to act in a very respectful manner at all times.
  • Players will accept, without dispute, the final decision of an official or coach without demonstrating discontent either verbally or with gestures.
  • No disrespect or swearing will be tolerated.
  • You will learn to accept defeat well and be considerate in victory.
  • You will respect the property and equipment of our school and of the other schools you play at.
  • Players must attend weekly practices in order to be eligible for playing time in the upcoming game.
  • You will maintain a 70% or better in all curriculum areas and must have no unsatisfactory conduct or effort mark’s (4’s or 5’s). Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of games and practices until such time that your grades improve. You will respect your coaches and assistants at all times both at practice and at games.
  • You will not be allowed to play in the next scheduled game or tournament if you receive a technical foul or are ejected from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • Players will not attend practices or games on the same day that they have been absent from school.
  • You may not enter St. Michael School for practices until your coach arrives. You may not attempt to enter the building through Extended Day Care or by asking the cleaning company to let you into the building.
  • Players are to understand that there are certain areas of the building that are off limits. Players are not to go into the main building and/or classrooms. In addition players are not to go in the closets behind the stage or to play on the stage or with the curtains. Players should not enter Mr. Diaz’s closet and remove/play with any athletic equipment.
  • Playing on a St. Michael School team is a privilege which is earned and may be taken away if you fail to meet the standards outlined in this contact.
As a parent, I understand the following:
  • My child should be given the opportunity to play a minimum of three minutes each half of the game.
  • My child’s coach is a representative of St. Michael School & Parish and should be respected at all times.
  • Parents are able to contact their child’s coach if their child is experiencing any issues in the basketball program.
  • If those issues are not dealt with by the coach, parents may contact Mr. Diaz, the Athletic Director, for assistance.
  • Parents will not drop their children off at St. Michael School prior to their practice time. A coach must be present for the players to gain access to the school.
  • In order for my child to be granted playing time at an upcoming game, my child must attend the practices that week. The students learn the plays that will be used during the game at their weekly practice times. We also recognize that it is parent’s responsibility to respond to all correspondence e-mail, voice mail from the coach.
  • As a parent, you should support your child by attending games. Cheering for your child in a respectful manner is a wonderful way to support your child and his/her team. Parents must refrain from disputing the final decision of a coach or official.
