Academic Philosophy
St. Michael School is an entity of love, faith and exemplary education.
To ensure academic excellence, greater fairness, and higher literacy, elementary and middle schools need a solid, specific, shared core curriculum in order to help children establish strong foundations of knowledge, grade by grade. The Core Knowledge curriculum in harmony with the Massachusetts frameworks and the guidelines established by the Archdiocese of Boston, provides a comprehensive curriculum. This curriculum is reviewed by staff/teachers as well as the NEASC to continue to maintain our high standards of education.
Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten Philosophy

The Nursery and Pre-K Programs are designed to contribute to all aspects of your child’s development. It has been developed to fit and meet three and four-year-old’s abilities, developmental levels, learning styles, and interests. The teachers recognize three very important tenets of early childhood education:

Children grow and develop at unique individual rates that are often unrelated to chronological age.

Children learn best through doing, through direct, immediate involvement with the environment, andthrough the sensory input of observation, manipulation, and experimentation.

Three and four-year-old children are experiencing rapid and important growth in many developmental areas, including the cognitive/intellectual, psychosocial, and physical-motor domains.

Kindergarten Philosophy

Kindergarten is an exciting entry into a child’s formal education and it is our mission to make it a positive beginning. The Kindergarten Program is designed to enhance your child’s development in a challenging, secure and nurturing environment. We believe that young children learn through active, purposeful interactions with a wide variety of learning materials and activities which enhance the growth of the whole child.

Elementary School Philosophy

The Elementary School Program lays the foundation upon which a child’s education is built. Students are encouraged to develop a positive attitude towards themselves and learning in a safe, faith base, nurturing environment. Children are encouraged to explore, discover and investigate the world around them, thereby broadening their horizons. Saint Michael School aims to educate children to become kind, cooperative, responsible citizens who will accept and respect individual differences in others - just as Jesus taught. Our children will face new challenges, unafraid to try, and unafraid to fail. Education is a lifelong process, and we strive to prepare children for the journey.

Middle School Philosophy
Saint Michael Middle School will provide a balanced program and environment to meet the special characteristics and needs of emerging adolescents. Students in middle school grades will be encouraged to be independent and self-directed, not only through classroom instruction, but also in leadership opportunities appropriate for this age. We want our students to feel a strong sense of belonging to their school, church, teachers, parents, and to each other. We want them to know what we expect, to expect praise when they live up to our expectations, and to accept consequences if they don’t and then move on with resolve to change.

We have high expectations for good behavior from all our students. Appropriate behavior creates the proper environment for learning. Each teacher expects every student to adhere to the student handbook rules and to follow the posted classroom rules. We have set limits for student behavior and consequences if students go beyond those limits. Parents’ support for these limits and consequences is vital to bringing all our students to their fullest social and academic potential.
