“Parents and teachers
working together
for the benefit of our children!”

UNITY

I dreamed I stood in a studio;
And I watched two sculptors there.
The clay they used was a young child's mind,
And they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher, the tools she used
Were books and music and art.
One was a parent with a guiding hand,
And a gentle loving heart.
Day after day the teacher toiled,
With touch that was deft and sure,
While the parent labored by her side,
And polished and smoothed it over.
And when at last their task was done,
They were proud of what they had wrought.
For the things they had molded into the child
Could neither be sold nor bought.
And each agreed they would have failed
If they had worked alone.
For behind the parent stood the school,
And behind the teacher the home.

Hello St. Michael School Families!

The PTO Planning Board extends a warm welcome to you, as together we embark on a new and exciting new school year!  We hope you all enjoyed a healthy and fun-filled summer.

We look forward to helping St. Michael School in turning its dreams into realities.  Our primary role will continue to be financial and social support to the parents, faculty, administration and children of St. Michael School.

Let us thank you in advance for volunteering your very valuable time, energy and talents to the PTO.  All efforts, large and small, contribute to the betterment of our school community. Please take a moment to explore the countless volunteer opportunities available to our families.

With God’s blessing, we begin another wonderful year of serving the families, especially the children of our beloved St. Michael School.  As you embark on this new adventure, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions, concerns or new ideas.  Our goal is to serve your family to the best of our ability.

OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

The objectives of the PTO are:

  1. To support our teachers and administrators as they promote the best educational, moral, intellectual and physical programs for the students.

  2. To render financial support by raising funds for the school in order to achieve objective #1.

  3. To develop a vibrant community of parents, teachers, administrators and students.

Membership to the PTO is open to any parent, grandparent or guardian of a St. Michael’s student.

The Structure of the PTO in terms of leadership may vary from year to year depending on our volunteers for these positions.  The structure for the 06-07 school year is as follows: 2 Coordinators, Secretary, Treasurer and an open member Planning Board.  All positions are on a volunteer basis. The Planning Board and the school administration approve the leadership positions.

The PTO is governed by a series of guidelines.  These guidelines outline our philosophy, goals and policies.  A copy of the PTO guidelines is available in your PTO packet or by contacting a board member.

PTO Schedule:  All meetings are open to all parents - watch bulletin for dates.  The General PTO meeting is incorporated in the Open Houses in September.

The Kit: The Genevieve Company is our Kit supplier and has many wonderful products/gifts to choose from.  We encourage all families to participate by sharing the catalogs with friends, family, etc.  We do not encourage unsupervised door to door sales by our children.

Mall Night:  Come out and celebrate the warmth of the holiday season during this special evening of private holiday shopping at a Simon Mall.

Mobil Gas Days:  Ameen’s Mobil, Mass Ave, North Andover, donates a percentage of gas pumped on a designated day each month.  Check the Trumpet for details.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Clerical:  We strive to have a team of people we can call on (especially during school hours, but not exclusively) for typing, photocopying, collating and distributing information.

Teacher Appreciation Lunches: Twice during the year, formal lunches are held to honor our faculty.  Parents prepare and/or cater a luncheon.  Volunteers are needed for food preparation, equipment (linens, tables, china, flowers), set-up and clean-up.

Grounds Committee:  This Committee is responsible for maintaining the outdoor play areas.

New Family Hospitality:  This is an opportunity to act as a host family for those new to St. Michael School.  It involves offering support and inviting participation within the school community.

PACE (Parents Alliance for Catholic Education): This is a nonprofit organization established by Cardinal Law in 1994 for Catholic Education in Massachusetts.  Our parent representative will ask for assistance a few times throughout the year in spreading the word about critical issues.

Snack Committee:  Volunteers for this committee, on a rotating basis, bake and donate goodies for many of our school events.

Uniform Exchange:  This is an opportunity to trade up/down your gently used uniforms. Our parent coordinator can use assistance from a few people twice a year for a short period during the exchange.

Other Volunteer Opportunities:  Watch the monthly newsletter and the weekly Trumpet for specific Help Wanted opportunities pertaining to scheduled fundraisers, events, etc.
