Computer
Class Projects and Tests
Projects
are done over many weeks in the computer lab and are graded with a rubric.
Depending on the grade and the term
there may be only one project.
Typing
During a typing exercise all students are expected to
sit properly, keep their hands on the home row and practice their typing. Typing effort is also counted in their grade.
During each typing exercise
all students start off with a 10 and lose a point for each lapse.
Some reasons for point loss may include:
Not sitting correctly
Not keeping their hands on the home row
Continuously looking at the keyboard instead
of the monitor
Not
using the correct hands for capital letters (example capital S is the s key
with left ring finger and shift with right pinky)
Not using their little finger for A
Not giving their best effort and following
all typing rules
Typing also counts during all
computer activities but the expectations are lower (It is difficult to practice
typing AND create a word document) but all students are expected to try
to type correctly.
Some reasons for point loss may include:
Typing with one or two fingers
Typing with only one hand
Using the Caps Lock Key instead of the shift
key
Not trying to type correctly
Students who lose points will
be given a “Typing to Improve Slip.”
These slips will list why the students lost points.
Computer Skills / Class Participation / Projects for Other
Classes
During each computer class
all students start off with a 10 and lose a point for each lapse
Some reasons for point loss may include:
Not saving their work correctly
Not practicing the computer skill being
taught that day
Not using their computer skills while working
on a project for another subject
Not following directions
Grading
On the report card
students will only receive a grade for effort and conduct. Grades will range from 1 (outstanding) to 5
(needs improvement).
For example: An outstanding
effort grade (1) will be given if all projects are done on time and the grade
average is 95 or above and the typing average is 9.5 or higher and their
computer skill/participation grade is 9.5 or higher. A needs improvement grade
(5) will be given if a project is not done on time or the grade average is 60
or below or the typing average is 5 or lower or their computer skills/participation
grade is 5 or lower.
The computer lab is open on Tuesday and
Thursday mornings from
Students may come in for extra
help, to make up missed computer classes, to do internet research, to get help
printing documents from home, to work on projects, etc.
